Fact to Action

How does your business use facts to make decisions and take action and do these processes lead to the best decision outcomes?

Bypass Solutions' “Fact to Action” model is used to look at how an organisation makes operational decisions.  The methodology looks at how basic data and information, combined with other behaviour modifiers leads to action being taken.

Behaviour Modifiers include things like policies, organisational culture and supervision: all of which have an impact on what actually happens on the shop or selling floor.

Reviewing how decisions are made can significantly improve the timeliness and effectiveness of decisions and thus profit.

Review steps include:
  • Analysing individual decisions to identify what information was used to make the decision and factors influenced the decision.
  • Reviewing the employee motivators and identifying conflicts with the corporate goals.
  • Comparing this to an Ideal model to identify opportunities to improve decision processes.
  • Making recommendations to change the behaviour modifiers to achieve improved decision making.
Some examples that we have seen where Decision analysis would improved business performance:
  • "The price of the raw materials went up months ago but we haven’t changed our selling price.  I don’t think anyone in marketing knows."
  • "Why should I be concerned about how product cost changes for smaller order quantities - my bonus is not affected by individual order size and I have to keep my customers happy"
  • "We lost that contract months ago so why did we order all of these components?"
  • "These spreadsheets take me three days to produce but I don’t know what they are used for."
  • "I don’t know why we are making this stuff.  The last batch sat in the warehouse for months and we only sold it last month because we heavily discounted the price."
